This image of The Virgin and Child appeared in the Rudnye Monastery in 1687. It differs from the better known “Virgin of Chernigov” in that Christ holds a book rather than a scroll. This 19th cent. example has the added decoration of leaves chased into the brass border. The border is further enhances by raised brass platforms in each corner. The figures have raised brass crowns.

An enamelled disc made for personal and portable possession. The icon comes from Rostov and dates from the last Quarter of the 19th cent. On the reverse the inscription confirms the subject. The disc is positioned within a board recently covered in purple velvet. The frame is also a later addition. Over its 150 years of existence its surface has suffered stress fractures and chipping around the edges. The price reflects the current condition.
