St Basil, known as St Basil of Caesarea and later St Basil the Great  was a well educated man who initially was an ascetic before being attracted to communal religious life.  He created many of the administrative procedures that govern monastic life. He was also a theologian stoutly defending the Trinitarian concept of God.
