0313 St Nicholas

This icon follows the traditional protocols of St Nicholas in Russian iconography. He is portrayed in the traditional manner. He looks out giving benediction with his right hand. In his left is an open Bible with a text urging people not to be shy of their Christian beliefs. On either side of his head there are medallions of Christ and The Virgin as a record of their appearance and support of him at The Council Of Nicea.

The icon was bought on the Spanish market and subsequently cleaned.and re-varnished.
