This is a small 18th cent. copy of a work entitled “The Last Supper” painted in Ivan Mikhalov  [better known as Ushakov]. Although in the 18th cent. there was a trend towards the “westernisation” of icon writing, this icon retained traditional techniques and disciplines.  The gold highlights on the tunic of Christ, the white highlighting of the Apostles clothes and the style of the furniture all reflect traditional values.

The icon was acquired from a British collector.  Written on a close grained elm board, there is no need for further protection from warping.  there has been a split in the board during the icon’s life. This has been repaired.
